Skammstafanir hafa verið með okkur síðan BC, eða frá því ritað mál varð til, því enginn nennti að meitla í stein algenga frasa eins og CV, TLHFC, BIC, BRT, GPR osfrv....  Fæstir vita hvað þetta allt þýðir.

AD fara menn að nota INRI og RIP.  PHD, BA, MA og GMT, sem er miðað við stað í GB sem er í UK, sem aftur er í NATO, en ekki lnegur EB (EU).  Sum lönd eru svo í EES, NAFTA eða BAFTA.  OPEC mun vera hlutur sem er til, sem er mikilvægt fyrir BMW, VW, GB, MAN og FIAT.  Líka DC-10, en minna nú.
